Benidorm is the real capital of the Costa Blanca in Spain. Not too many years ago, it was a fishing village, but has become a major tourist attraction able to house five million visitors per year in their hotels, villas and apartments. Anything you could want to do on a fun vacation is available to you there. Golf, swimming and all kinds of water sports, including sailing, scuba diving and fishing are readily available. The beaches are beautiful! There is golf, para-gliding and even go-carts. Cars, bicycles and mopeds can be rented. You can visit several theme parks on the Costa Blanca. There are many fiestas, so check them out before you book your flight to Benidorm!

Transportation to Benidorm is very reasonable, and because of its wonderful weather, you can fly there all year round. Benidorm doesn’t have an airport, but you can fly into Valencia or Alicante. The nearest airport to Benidorm is Alicante International Airport, which is 10 km from Alicante City. It offers many direct flights to and from the UK. It is about an hour drive to Benidorm from there. You can catch a taxi, a coach, or hire a car at the airport.
In June 2008, a direct tram service from Benidorm to Alicante began, with great success among locals and holidaymakers. Commuters now enjoy the hour long journey in comfort, instead of fighting rush hour traffic on the motorways. A ticket from Benidorm to Alicante costs €5 but a book of 10 tickets can be purchased for €17 which gives a saving of €1.50 per return journey.
A bus leaves every hour from the airport to Alicante city centre, costing €1 per person. From there regular buses to Benidorm cost €3 per person. A taxi will cost a bit more, but get you there in forty minutes or so.
Most of the European “Low Cost” and scheduled airlines have flights to Benidorm. Airlines such as Bmibaby, Easyjet, Bristish Airways, Jet2, Monarch, Flybe, and Mytravel Lite all have cheap Benidorm flights available from the UK. Monarch and Thomas Cook offer charters that you can book directly or through your travel agent.
From Madrid and Barcelona, check with Iberia or Spanair.
From Germany you will find cheap flights on Ryanair and Air-Berlin. Ryanair also has flights from Italy, France and Skandanavia.
If you are flying from the US, it is recommended that you use a cheap US carrier, fly into London Gatwick, and then take Monarch or Easyjet for a cheap route to Benidorm.
Don’t forget that there are discounts on the “red eye” flights as well! You can compare the various internet travel agencies to find the cheapest flights for your trip to Benidorm…they are often cheaper than direct booking from the airline.
While tourism has been suffering a decline of the past few years, the popularity of Benidorm has never lessened. It is stronger than ever as a tourist attraction, mostly as the result of the availability of cheap flights and hotels. In fact, flying to Benidorm via Alicante has never been cheaper or easier!
